Barbara Opall-Rome is a 29-year veteran of Defense News, a leading international weekly specializing in the business and politics of defense. She founded the Israel Bureau in 1999 after more than a decade at headquarters in the Washington, DC area.

Opall-Rome also is executive editor and host of Strictly Security, an hour-long, weekly news magazine broadcast internationally on i24News.

As Israel Bureau Chief, Opall-Rome specializes in US-Israel strategic cooperation; Israeli defense spending and military modernization; the Israeli defense, cyber and homeland security industries; and the impact of Israeli foreign policy on regional security.

 

From her base in Israel, Opall-Rome closely monitors the shifting balances of power in a region roiled by strife. She has covered myriad military operations beyond Israel’s 1967 borders, including five wars; one in Lebanon, three in Gaza and one in the West Bank.

 

A graduate of American University in Washington, DC, Opall-Rome is happily married to Zvi Steve Rome and the proud mother of two children, two stepchildren and four step-grandchildren.
